Saintess Larnia : in her own words

The Support
I do remember my first concert at JLC Live. Jay Hurikan gave me my first break, owner of Virtual Music Services! It was mainly acoustic musicians and lots of regular performances. I had totally planned to sing in Second Life - that was my reason for coming here. My music career here is 100% supported by various people and without them; my career wouldn’t be the same. The teams that help me are my manager Lingual Markus, my assistants Teagan Sapphire.

Owen Landar & Tilly Morgath. The massive support from my fan group Saintess Souls who come to many gigs of mine sometimes twice in the same day! It can be very stressful to manage yourself alone. Notices have to be sent to music groups, gigs to be booked and audience to welcome. Assistants attend every gig and give a warm welcome to each member of the audience. I have managed myself in the beginning and it was hard so now I am so grateful to have such a well organised team these days.

The Name
A friend nicknamed himself The Saint and suggested I call myself Saintess because of being female and it just stuck. I have used that nickname on other programs while performing. People have joined SL and recognised me as the same person so it’s been useful in that way. I always liked the idea of a name with guitar or acoustic in the nickname although these are harder to get due to popularity.

The Look
When I joined SL  my musician friend Lexie Luan took me shopping, and I stayed up till midnight perfecting my look. She helped me with which hair to get skin and all these things that were all new to me. Lexie Luan is a fantastic an established musician in SL and I was so glad to have her help. The look is  important, it’s your whole image. Badly fitting clothes and bad hair just don't appeal. In SL people still like to have a pin up! However good sound quality is more important than the look, as it needs to please the ears otherwise if there is bad distortions they may walk away however pretty you look!

The Skillz
The technical side of playing in Second life is fairly hard, because you have to set up your equipment at home. In my case it’s a large mixing board and without Raspbury Rearwins help (another fantastic SL musician) I would be still crying at all the buttons there are on it. Streaming your music into SL can be tricky I was very lucky to have help. I offer my advice to new musicians that are struggling with these same issues.
Technical mishaps can happen, but so far Saintess has steered clear of some of the worst blunders.
“I have TP'd someone onto the stage when I was singing that was more embarrassing for them than me.
The major difference between the virtual and real life performances is that you get to perform to people over the world. You can also promote your music all over the world more easily. I think you get honesty too, because people say what they really think behind avatars.

The Influences and Inspirations
I admire Serena Ryder a Canadian singer songwriter. She has everything going for her voice, musicianship her songwriting... an amazing package. My favorite song is Everlong by the Foo fighters a power love song amazing lyrics that just say it all. I don't really like the whole Death Metal thing so I would say those types of songs i hate. I would nick Florence and The Machines career because she almost got famous overnight. Her music is so interesting and very spiritual. I learned to play 4 Non Blondes '-What’s up', and I still have recordings somewhere that I made of myself. My personal best is my original song 'Faded', just because I wrote it very quickly and I'm still the proudest of that song. I like to cover such a wide range of songs from many genres there’s nothing I wouldn’t have a go at. My original song 'Rainbows' is requested most because I guess it’s catchy and different and lively. My fans like my originals the most and I'm planning to write some more.

Where to Catch Saintess.
She plays all over the grid
Lost Continent is my longest running gig in SL and has been so much fun as they like doing the themed events.
